Five Clubs Linked For Talented Southampton Man As Departure Now Seems Inevitable

|

The speculation surrounding a potential departure for Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina certainly kicked to life over the weekend and on Monday and it now appears likely it’s only a matter of time before the 25-year-old moves on to pastures new.

Report Claims Southampton Haven’t Yet Received Interest In 25 y/o Star

With the original speculation suggesting that he had been transfer listed, but that no offers were in, it heavily leaned on his game time last year but few of the reports even acknowledged his injuries in the 2018/19 campaign.

Late Sunday evening The Mirror published an interview with the player where he pretty much implied he wanted to leave and enjoy a fresh start after his injury problems. He also stated that the club were happy enough with that as a solution after the discussions that had taken place.

“I still have another three years of contract. But it is true that I do not rule out the possibility of seeing something else. The last four months have not been easy for me, with my injury. The coach put his team together. I want to start afresh. So why not leave? We have very good discussions with the club. We are in agreement. If I don’t feel good in this project, I can leave. They are giving me the opportunity to be able to go elsewhere.”

They initially linked Serie A Side Atalanta with being interested in him but did state he wasn’t expected to travel to Austria for our pre-season training camp – however, that didn’t happen and he was left behind by manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

By the end of Monday Calciomercato had Lazio and Fiorentina listed as having an interest in him, whilst Daily Mail has Manchester United and Arsenal named.

Given his quality, it certainly wasn’t a development I saw coming but it can surely only be a matter of time now. What’s important for us is we maximise the fee and make profit to offset other transfers that haven’t exactly worked out for us.
